Knowledge is Power

A rebrand and a revisit

In this era of banned books, forbidden expression, and our government trying to push into our learning institutions to prevent the free exchange of information, I decided it was time for a re-brand. I think sharing stories is one of the most powerful things we humans can do. It’s one big reason I became an actor. Our lives are built on personal myths and histories, and the choices we make each day are informed by the stories we’ve been told. Which is why we need LOTS of stories.

Back in October of 2024, I asked Brandon (my hubby) to help me make a short film for a puppet competition (hosted by GLOP, an organization that is bringing more women into puppetry, which I LOVE). The challenge was to make a spooky film (because, October = Halloween) and then, as I now, I feel one of the scariest things is the control of information. This story popped into my head, and Brandon and I lovingly crafted the puppets and sets to create this hybrid puppet/animation short. I wrote and performed the piano music, “Dora’s Waltz.” Any guesses what Dora is short for?

Unbelievably, Brandon and I hadn’t really ever collaborated before (ya know, except on life). It was exciting to see what kind of creativity we could unlock in each other. Who would have thought we’d work well together? And even more amazingly: we won the competition.

So please, give Knowledge is Power a watch. And if you love it, share it. I believe in its message. If you’re burning or banning books, you’re the villain in this story.

As for my Substack, my goal is now to share my original stories with you, along with storytelling ideas that come to me through my work as an actor and audiobook narrator. I sure hope you’ll stay a while to listen…
